Title: Studies spectroscopy FTIR of copolymer used as viscosity improvers for SAE 10W mineral oil
Ioana Stanciu (Biography)
Ioana Stanciu teacher of chemistry and physics in middle school. I graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Bucharest in 1998. Studies Master we made in the same college and we have completed in 2001. I obtained a Ph.D. in chemistry in 2008 after 6 years of research stage, in which we obtained multi-grade oils based on synthetic polymers. Since 2005 has participated in numerous national and international conferences, has papers publishing in journals national and international for study multi-grade oils, canola oils and sunflower oil. I continued the research by studying oils and get new rheological models describing their behavior.
Ioana Stanciu (Abstract)
The copolymer is used as an automotive for viscosity improvers for multi-grade oils. Copolymer KELTAN 4200 is recommended for plastics modification and oil modification, for application in automotive, construction, wire and cable and general rubber good. The properties chemical and physical of copolymer KELTAN 4200 are: physical state - solid, form - bales or granulate, colour – natural opaque, brown in case of oil extended grades, odour – weak paraffinic, relative density 860-900 kg.m-3, bulk density depending on bale or granulate structure, insoluble in water, soluble in hydrocarbons such as (alkanes: hexane, heptanes, octane, decane, dodecane, iso-octane, isododecane, cycloalkanes: cyclo-octane, decaline, cyclododecane, aromatic substances: butyl benzene, octylbenyene, and oil: paraffinic naphthenic, aromatic. The characteristic absorption bands of a copolymer KELTAN 4200 appeared at 2921.07, 2851.57, 2361.41, 1460.59, 1376.12, 674.10 and 628.69 cm-1 First, the intensity of the absorption band at 2921.07 cm-1 associated with the CH2 asymmetric stretch had decreased significantly after ages. A similar decrease was also observed for the CH2 absorption band at 2851.57 cm-1, which is associated with the CH2 symmetric stretch. The second significant observation about the aged IR spectra is decomposition of the C-CH3 bond with an asymmetric bend at 1460.59 cm-1. The third major observation is in the intensity of the C-CH3 bond with a symmetric bend around wave number 1376.12 cm-1. A similar reduction was also observed for the out-of-plane CH bend absorbtion at wavenumber 674.10 and 628.69 cm-1.
